SCC and Garkane “Minute To Win It” Contest Raises $1700 for Local Student Athletes

South Central Communications and Garkane Energy teamed up during the Boys & Girls Cowboy Classic Basketball Tournaments this past December to inject some excitement into halftime festivities and raise extra money for Kanab High School student athletics.

SCC and Garkane each sponsored a KHS student for five different games throughout both tournaments, who competed in a free-throw contest against one another. Not only did the winner receive a cash prize, but each winner’s side of the gym also received a coupon for $1.00 off at the KHS concession stand. SCC shooters won three of the contests, while Garkane sponsored shooters won two.

The contest, called A Minute to Win It, was huge boost to the energy of the tournament and to the fundraising efforts of Kanab High School. “Garkane and South Central boosted community spirit and helped send concession sales through the roof,” said KHS Principal, Trevor Stewart. According to the school, nearly 1000 coupons were redeemed, resulting in $700 in additional concession sales compared to the previous year.

SCC and Garkane split the cost to sponsor the $1.00 concession coupons. When combined with the increased concession sales numbers, the two companies helped contribute $1,700 of extra funds that will support KHS Boys & Girls Basketball.

With “A Minute to Win It” an overwhelming success, you can expect to see more partnerships and fun contests from South Central and Garkane at future events.
